WIKA pressure gauges fulfil an important task in the rescue of sea lions in Mexico \u2013 just one example of how unusual the possible applications of WIKA products can be.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sea lions inhabit the Baja California peninsula. However, their population is endangered by fishing nets and fishing lines in which these creatures can get caught up. Even after liberation, they can die as a result of the injuries they have suffered. The organisation \u201cRescate de Lobos Marinos\u201d, founded in 2014, has therefore set itself the goal of helping these aquatic mammals.<\/p>\n

Together with scientists and volunteers, the organisation runs campaigns at regular intervals to identify sea lions and help animals in poor physical condition. However, it is no easy feat to catch sea lions, who can weigh up to 1,200 kilograms, and free them from fishing nets. It takes great skill to approach and tranquilise them. And this is exactly where WIKA comes into play: WIKA pressure gauges are a central element in dart guns. This is because precise pressure measurement is needed to dose the right quantity of carbon dioxide, the propellant, for an effective shot, depending on the distance to the animal.<\/p>\n
