It goes without saying that those gauges, sensors, switches, and transmitters must be able to withstand high pressures (up to 500 psi) and extreme temperatures:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Primary combustion chamber \u2013 1,400\u00b0F (760\u00b0C)<\/li>\n<li>Secondary combustion chamber \u2013 1,600\u00b0F (870\u00b0C)<\/li>\n<li>Steam boilers \u2013 600\u00b0F (315\u00b0C)<\/li>\n<li>Flue \u2013 at least 1,480\u00b0F (805\u00b0C) for more than 2 seconds to convert NO<sub>X<\/sub> to N<sub>2<\/sub><\/li>\n<li>Steam turbine \u2013 500\u00b0F (260\u00b0C)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Solutions for temperature monitoring and control<\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Both <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.wika.com\/us\/\/products\/temperature-products\/rtd-vs-thermocouple-when-to-use-each-product\/\">thermocouples and RTDs<\/a> are suitable for WtE facilities. The choice of sensors depends on several factors:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The application\u2019s temperature range<\/li>\n<li>The application\u2019s pressure range<\/li>\n<li>Mechanical vibration and shock<\/li>\n<li>The medium\u2019s characteristics (solid\/liquid\/gaseous, corrosive, hazardous) and flow rate<\/li>\n<li>Space constraints<\/li>\n<li>Accuracy, repeatability, and stability<\/li>\n<li>Response time<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n      <div class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"max-width:208px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.wika.com\/us\/\/files\/2019\/05\/tr10-300x471.png\" alt=\"TR10 Resistance Thermometer\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">TR10 RTD sensor<\/p><\/div>\n    \n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Temperature indicators (TI) are located along the fireproof ceiling, walls, and base of combustion chambers, totaling 12 to 16 sensors. Temperature transmitters, housed in control cabinets away from high heat conditions, are connected to each TI via a compensating line to minimize signal loss.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Two of the core products found in waste-to-energy plants are WIKA\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wika.com\/en-us\/search_results.WIKA?wika-search=TR10-2\" rel=\"external\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>TR10-2 RTD assembly<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wika.com\/en-us\/tc10_2.WIKA?highlightedText=TC10-2\" rel=\"external\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>TC10-2 thermocouple assembly<\/strong><\/a>. Designed to be mounted inside a thermowell, these spring-loaded industrial temperature sensors ensure good contact with the base of a thermowell bore for high accuracy and a fast response time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">When an application requires the fastest response time, use a sensor that can be installed directly into the process without a thermowell. WIKA\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wika.com\/en-us\/tr10_3.WIKA\" rel=\"external\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>TR10-3 RTD assembly<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wika.com\/en-us\/tc10_3.WIKA\" rel=\"external\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>TC10-3 thermocouple assembly<\/strong><\/a> have high ingress protection and explosion-proof electrical approvals for hazardous locations. Both models are configurable with an extensive range of connection heads, terminal blocks or transmitters, neck lengths, insertion lengths, and more. An optional compression fitting makes it easy to adjust the insertion depth during installation. The metal sheath of the TC10-3 offers excellent protection against the chlorides, hydrochloric acids, and high temperatures found in an incinerator\u2019s combustion chambers.<\/p>\n\n      <div class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"max-width:283px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.wika.com\/us\/\/files\/2018\/01\/what-you-need-to-know-388x218.jpg\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">TR15-2 industrial RTD assembly<\/p><\/div>\n    \n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sometimes the best way to protect temperature sensors is to relocate them away from the high-heat or high-vibration environment. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wika.com\/en-us\/tr15_2.WIKA?highlightedText=tr15-2\" rel=\"external\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>TR15-2 RTD assembly<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wika.com\/en-us\/tc15_2.WIKA?highlightedText=TC15-2\" rel=\"external\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>TC15-2 thermocouple assembly<\/strong><\/a> are WIKA\u2019s remote-mount models. In addition, they protect human lives by allowing operators to install, maintain, and repair the<span>\u00a0 <\/span>instruments at a safe distance. Furthermore, the TR15-2 and TC15-2 are ideal when a location makes direct mounting difficult or impossible.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n      <div class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"max-width:323px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.wika.com\/us\/\/files\/2024\/04\/t38.jpeg\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">T38 temperature transmitter<\/p><\/div>\n    \n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">These industrial temperature assemblies come with or without a temperature transmitter. For sensors that require one, use the universally programmable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wika.com\/en-us\/t38.WIKA?highlightedText=T-38\" rel=\"external\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>T38 digital transmitter<\/strong><\/a>. It\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">offers high accuracy through sensor\u2013transmitter matching, the highest reliability, and excellent protection against electromagnetic influences. Via HART\u00ae protocol, the T38 temperature transmitter is configurable (interoperable) with a variety of open configuration tools. Through the configuration of a sensor with redundancy (dual sensor), it will automatically change over from the failed sensor to the backup sensor. Furthermore, with WIKA True Drift Detection technology, the T38 allows operators to continuously monitor sensors for temperature drift and immediately identify erroneous measuring locations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Other quality temperature instruments for power stations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wika.com\/en-us\/tg51.WIKA?highlightedText=TG51\" rel=\"external\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>TG51 bimetal thermometer<\/strong><\/a>, process version per ASME B40.200 \u2013 for temperature measurement in furnaces, steam generators, and the utilities section of a plant.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wika.com\/en-us\/tr53.WIKA?highlightedText=%E2%80%A2TR53\" rel=\"external\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>TR53 bayonet RTD<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wika.com\/en-us\/tr58.WIKA?highlightedText=TR58\" rel=\"external\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>TR58 bearing RTD sensor<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 used to measure the temperature of cylinder heads, an engine\u2019s oil sumps, lube oil systems, and bearings in rotating equipment.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wika.com\/en-us\/tc80.WIKA?highlightedText=TC80\" rel=\"external\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>TC8X thermocouple<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 designed for use in extremely high temperatures (up to 2,912\u00b0F\/1,600\u00b0C) with a high-purity ceramic inner tube and oxidation-\/corrosion-resistant metals. The pure ceramic insulators and tubes, in conjunction with thermocouples made of noble metals, provides excellent resistance against contamination and premature degradation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n      <div class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"max-width:233px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.wika.com\/us\/\/files\/2024\/04\/23x.54-pressure-gauge.png\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">233.54 pressure gauge<\/p><\/div>\n    \n<h3>Solutions for pressure monitoring and control<\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">To produce electricity, a waste-to-energy plant heats water in a utility boiler to produce the high-pressure steam needed to spin the turbine\u2019s blades. Process gauges and pressure transmitters monitor and control this process. Since rotors and bearings produce significant mechanical vibration during operation, and are found in high-temperature environments, the pressure instruments on steam turbines must be able to withstand these two <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.wika.com\/us\/\/knowhow\/8-common-reasons-for-pressure-gauge-failure\/\">common reasons for gauge failure<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Liquid case fill is an easy and cost-effective way to prolong a mechanical gauge\u2019s service life. The glycerin or silicone oil dampens and slows the movement, which reduces wear and tear on the internal mechanisms. A liquid-filled gauge is also easier to read in high-vibration applications than a dry gauge.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">A popular pressure instrument for steam turbines is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wika.com\/en-us\/232_54_233_54.WIKA\" rel=\"external\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>233.54 Bourdon tube pressure gauge<\/strong><\/a> with all-stainless steel construction and liquid-filled case. On its own, the CPG1500 can be used throughout the plant as a single-channel datalogger for pressure, and also for remote monitoring and diagnostics of process piping as well as various equipment and machinery.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Design for the process industry, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wika.com\/en-us\/dpgt43hp_100_dpgt43hp_160.WIKA?highlightedText=DPGT43HP\" rel=\"external\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>DPGT43HP differential pressure gauge with output signal<\/strong><\/a> is found in locations with a high differential pressure overload and\/or high working pressures (static pressures). Their analog output signals include 4 &#8230; 20 mA, DC 0 &#8230; 10 V, DC 1 &#8230; 5 V, and others upon request.<\/p>\n<h3>Solutions for level measurement<\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Whether a power plant uses solid municipal waste, fossil fuels, or another energy source, its industrial boiler converts water into the high-pressure steam that turns the blades of a turbine to generate electricity. To ensure that the boiler system always has a sufficient level of water, the steam drum is generally equipped with three level gauges (for extra redundancy0, and sometimes in conjunction with a float level switch.<\/p>\n<h3>Solutions for flow measurement<\/h3>\n\n      <div class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"max-width:208px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.wika.com\/us\/\/files\/2024\/04\/flc-fn-fln.jpeg\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Flow nozzle for flange assembly<\/p><\/div>\n    \n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">EfW facilities rely on a system of pipes to carry water and steam to and from various points. To ensure safety and efficiency, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wika.com\/en-us\/flc_fn_fln_flc_fn_pip_flc_fn_vn.WIKA\" rel=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">Venturi nozzles and flow nozzles<\/a> monitor the fluids\u2019 rate to make sure that the flow is within acceptable ranges. These primary flow elements are available in all standard nominal sizes, <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.wika.com\/us\/\/products\/flow-products\/venturi-nozzles-measure-fluid-flow-rates-minimal-pressure-loss\/\">measure fluid flow rates with minimal pressure loss<\/a>, and have an accuracy within \u2264 \u00b11.0% of the actual flow rate.
