WIKA&#8217;s FlowPak Flow Meter Provides Versatility, Efficiency, and Savings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The orifice plate flow meter and other devices for differential pressure (DP) flow measurement have both positive and negative attributes. WIKA\u2019s innovative FlowPak features all the benefits of traditional DP flow meters but with greater accuracy and less drop in pressure. What\u2019s more, the FlowPak does not require straight piping, making it ideal for applications with limited mounting space.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Drawbacks of Traditional Orifice Plate Flow Meters<\/h2>\n<p>There\u2019s no doubt that traditional differential pressure (DP) flow meters have their drawbacks, namely, pressure drops, a limited flow range, and the need for significant upstream and downstream piping. However, traditional flow measurement devices \u2013 the orifice plate, annular orifice, flow nozzle, and wedge flow meter, to name a few \u2013 have many advantages. They work well in large-diameter pipes, at high temperatures and high pressures, and with steam and other applications where other technologies may fail short in terms of cost, size, or reliability. For example, orifice plates are easy to install and maintain, and they provide repeatable measurements \u2013 even when used in viscous or dirty media. Also, an orifice plate\u2019s maximum operating temperatures and pressures are limited only by its material and the flange.<\/p>\n<p>What if you could have an instrument with all the advantages of traditional DP flow measurement devices but without the drawbacks? That\u2019s exactly what WIKA set out to do.<\/p>\n<h2>Improvement on the Orifice Plate:\u00a0Innovation in flow meter technology\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>Based on an optimized <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.wika.com\/us\/\/products\/flow-products\/venturi-nozzles-measure-fluid-flow-rates-minimal-pressure-loss\/\">Venturi tube design<\/a> and using the latest in flow conditioning technology, WIKA\u2019s flow specialists developed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wika.com\/en-us\/flc_hhr_fp.WIKA?ProductGroup=86032\" rel=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">FlowPak flow meter<\/a>. The minimum pressure loss of the FlowPak results in almost no negative effects on the flow profile. With better energy efficiency comes lower operating costs.<\/p>\n<p>FlowPak\u2019s innovative design offers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An accuracy of \u00b1 0.5% (\u00b1 0.25% with calibration)<\/li>\n<li>A constant flow coefficient (C<sub>v<\/sub>) of 0.985<\/li>\n<li>A permanent pressure loss of only 15\u201320% of the generated DP<\/li>\n<li>No straight piping requirement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Extensive laboratory tests and field runs confirm the FlowPak\u2019s superior performance. More than 1,500 calibration points from Worcester Polytechnic Institute\u2019s Alden Research Laboratory, the oldest continuously operating hydraulic lab in the U.S., prove the constancy of FlowPak\u2019s C<sub>v<\/sub>\u2013 within \u00b1 0.5% of the predicted value \u2013 regardless of the Reynolds number (Re). Its installation does not require any straight upstream or downstream piping. Even two 90\u00b0 elbows out of plane are not a problem.
