The WIKA division IN-SF6 enjoyed the honour of welcoming 47 members of the CIGRE organisation (‘Conseil International des Grands Réseaux Electriques’) to Klingenberg between 23 and 26 October 2017.
CIGRE – founded in 1921 – is an international, not-for-profit association to promote cooperation between experts from around the world. Through the exchange of knowledge and the joining of forces, it seeks to improve the electrical power systems of today and tomorrow. Worldwide, CIGRE brings together about 8000 technical and scientific professionals from more than 90 countries, as well as around 1100 corporate members from utility companies as well as from industry and the scientific community.
For these four days at WIKA, the members of Group B3, ‘Substations’, AA2 ‘Area Advisory for gas insulated switchgear, gas insulated lines, application of SF6 and alternative gases’ was in conference. The work of this group includes the planning, maintenance and operation of gas-insulated switchgear (‘GIS’).
During this six-monthly B3.AA2 meeting, the following five working groups met to drive their projects forward on a joint basis.
- B3.39, the impact of NCIT (Non-Conventional Instrument Transformers) on GIS
- B3.41, mobile substations with GIS
- B3.45, the use of non-SF6 gases
- B3.50, concepts for HV testing of GIS on location after installation, expansion, retrofit or repair
- SF6 Green Book (pooling of knowledge on the subject of SF6 gas)
As well as the official programme, participants were also able to learn about WIKA’s laboratories for SF6 analysis, calibration technology and material analysis. Participants also got to know the region a little with an evening visit to Miltenberg. All in all, we can look back on a successful and productive event for which we would like to extend our grateful thanks to all the participants and support staff, and we also wish Siemens Berlin the same level of success for the forthcoming meeting in April 2018.
Further information about the organisation can be found on the CIGRE website. Additional information about Group B3 ‘Substations’ can be found on the CIGRE B3 page. Further information about WIKA in the power transmission and distribution sector (SF6) can be found on the WIKA website.
