On World Cleanup Day, volunteers around the world rid the environment of rubbish. This was the second time that WIKA took part in the day of action, which has been organised annually since 2018.
All employees who wanted to make the environment on their own doorstep a little cleaner could take part. As an incentive, the WIKA sustainability team, which organised the campaign, also came up with a challenge: Which team would find the most unique piece of rubbish? This goal in mind inspired many with ambition, leading to 287 employees from 11 subsidiaries in 7 countries swarming out on World Cleanup Day – highly motivated and equipped with rubber gloves, bin bags and litter pickers. Some children lend a helping hand as well.
An impressive two tonnes of rubbish collected
What applies in one’s own home seems to be working just as well in the wild: Cleaning up together can even be fun! The remarkable result cannot be explained otherwise. At the end of the day, the WIKA teams had collected no less than two tonnes of rubbish together, equivalent to 120 full bathtubs.
What about the challenge? The selection was difficult, but despite other interesting finds – such as an audio cassette, a mobile phone and a washbasin – the team from Arese won. After all, the Italian colleagues had found a sofa. Rather than resting easy on it, they preferred to celebrate their victory symbolically and planted a tree on the premises of the subsidiary.
Delighted with the global participation in World Cleanup Day
The sustainability team praised the collaborative effort and the great determination of everyone who took part in the event:
We are delighted that so many subsidiaries took part in the World Cleanup Day – India with three teams, Italy and Germany with two teams each, as well as Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Poland and the USA. The two tonnes of rubbish that we have removed from the environment show very impressively how much we can achieve by joining forces.
